Jason Edwards
BACK TO ARLINGTON
Whilst continuing to rider for the Fen Tigers, in July 2019, Jason also signs for The Eastbourne Eagles in the Championship, becoming a full asset of the Sussex based club who made the step back up to professional speedway at the beginning of the season.
Riding at reserve, Jason scores 5 points on his club debut away at The Glasgow Tigers in the first leg of The Championship Shield Final 1st leg, before making his home debut against The Somerset Rebels.
TIME TO ROAR
2019 looks to be an important year for Jason not just on the shale but also in the classroom, where he is set to tackle his GCSE’s.
He has also signed for the Mildenhall Fen Tigers in the National League, which being a weekend track fits perfectly with his schoolwork and provides another new challenge on track.
NO LIMITS
During the 2018 season Jason was selected to be a part of a Great Britain style training camp. Run by Ian Sinderson and Rob Lyon with the support of Rory Schlein, Paul Suggitt, Chris Neville and many more, this is a training programme too good to pass.
The programme covers everything from fitness and nutrition to riding drills, racing skills and bike maintenance. Every aspect of the course aims at improvement and professionalism which is so vital in speedway.
FAREWELL TO THE RACEWAY
They say history repeats itself and just under a year later from Jason’s dream debut in the National League, to be eligible for the Championship, which is the second tier in British speedway, you have to officially be 16 years of age.
Which Jason was, exactly to the day and nearly the hour, where he was given the opportunity to race in the final meeting for the Lakeside Hammers at their beloved home, the Purfleet Raceway.
A night of mixed emotions, not only racing on his 16th birthday, 10 years later from his first race ever, it was time to say goodbye to “the Raceway” with a night to be remembered amongst the speedway community and Essex community.
THE EAGLE HAS LANDED.
In 2018 Jason signed for the Eastbourne Eagles in the National League where success was the only thing on agenda. At the end of the year Eastbourne wrapped up the National League title for the first time in the clubs history as well as the Knockout Cup.
NEW KID ON THE BLOCK
On a personal note Jason had an extremely successful opening year becoming the youngest ever qualifier for the British Under 21 Final as well as achieving the greatest number of bonus points in the league.
A Dream DEBUT
When a rider officially turns 15 they are eligible to race in the National League, which is the third tier of British Speedway. This meant Jason was given the chance to race in the Playoff semi-final for The Lakeside Hammers.
Not only was this a big event to kick-start his adult career, he was also on double the engine size as well. Scoring an impressive paid 10 points certainly turned plenty of eyebrows.
FLYING THE FLAG
During June 2017, Jason was selected to represent Great Britain in the European Championship taking place in Plzen, Czech Republic.
This was his first chance to make an impact on the European stage and he managed to qualify and achieve a very respectable 10th place overall.
2nd, 2nd, 2nd
Throughout Jason’s Under 15 career, through no lack of trying he never quite triumphed overall in the British Championship, something of which he is determined to change throughout his senior career.
A Trip of a LIFETIME
Only 8 months after getting on a speedway bike, Jason was given the chance, by Martin Hagon and his family to go on a trip of a life-time to America to race in the Monster Energy Invitational in California.
Not only did he race amongst Americans, he was also surrounded by some world class riders, making this trip a lifelong memory.
From DIRT to SHALE
After starting in the world of motocross, in 2013 Jason traded jumps for circles in an attempt to follow his drifting dreams. The perfect opportunity occurred when a speedway academy was constructed in Essex, led by Martin Hagon and Gerald Richter. It was the perfect proving ground for Jason with no brakes.
MOTOCROSS
From 6-12 years old Jason raced Motocross, travelling up and down the country, winning multiple championships and competing at a national level.
GRASSROOTS
With both sides of Jason’s family being heavily involved in the sport of grass track it was almost inevitable to he would ride in this sport at some point.
This point was hugely successful for Jason as he picked up numerous titles as well as the British Cadet Champion in 2011.
FIRST RACE
His first race took place on his 6th birthday which luckily for him fell exactly on a weekend, which meant he was officially allowed to get his license.
So, after watching his brother in anticipation for several years, it was finally his chance to race.
BEGINNINGS
When Jason was 4 years old, he asked Santa for a motorbike, who brought it to him one magical Christmas night. What his parents were unaware of, was that their son would never get off it..
